Chalkidiki

Chalkidiki was named after the ancient Greek city of Chalkis in the 8^th or 7^th century BC. This is where Earth gave birth to the mythological Giants (among them Athos) who fought a battle against the ruling gods of nearby Mt. Olypmus, using as their weapons rocks and burning tree truncks. This gave rise to the area’s original name, Flegra.

Chalkidiki (specifically, the city of Stageira) was the birthplace of Aristotle, the great ancient greek philosopher. Chalkidiki is also the site of the Petralona cave, where a paleolithic human skull was discovered, with an estimated age of between 250 000 and 700 000 years.

Siviri

Siviri is a village located in the southwest of the Kassandra Peninsula in Chalkidiki, between Kassandreia and Fourka. It is well known for its rich fauna. It has a well organized beach and everything a visitor can ask for, from tavernas and bars to super-market and a summer movie theatre. During the summer a cultural festival is taking place in Siviri, with many events and shows.
