World’s tallest building officially opened
On 04 January 2010 in a spectacular ceremony the world’s tallest building – the Burj Dubai skyscraper, was officially opened. The tower was constructed in the middle of the new “Downtown Burj Dubai” trade center and now bears the name “Burj Khalifa” – named after the current president of the UAE His Royal Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan. The opening date coincides with the 4th anniversary of the appointment of Sheikh Mohammed ibn Rashid Al-Maktoum as a ruler of Dubai. His Royal Highness also marked the beginning of the ceremony.
At the ceremony the official hight of the building was also announced – 828 meter and 162 floors, which makes it 300 meter taller than the previous holder of the record – Taipei’s “Taipei 101”
