Bulgaria saw the visits of 7 499 117 foreigners in 2006, National Statistical Institute (NSI) reported. Nearly 4.4 million foreign visitors came as tourists, another 1.34 million passed transit through the country, Focus news agency reported. Nearly 1.1 million Romanians visited Bulgaria in 2006, followed by 0.8 million Turkish citizens and 0.7 million Macedonians. Focus news agency reported that 4 180 357 Bulgarians traveled abroad in 2006. Bulgarian National Radio (BNR) said that most Bulgarians preferred to travel abroad in August. Turkey, Greece, Serbia and Macedonia feature among the most popular destinations for Bulgarians, Darik Radio said.
