Bulgaria capable of developing elite tourism

At least 40 international tourist agencies specialized in offering packages for elite and individual tourism are coming to Bulgaria for the 58-th WATA General Assembly, which would be held in Sofia between November 15 and 17. For the event announced Ognyan Blagoev, director of Miel travel agency, the only one Bulgarian agency, member of WATA. The topic of the assembly this year will be “Bulgaria –elite tourism destination”, announced “Dnevnik”. According to the World Association Travel Agencies (WATA) Bulgaria had a “serious potential” to become a destination for elite tourism, WATA executive director Christine Fournier said on September 25 2007. Ognyan Blagoev, director of Miel travel agency, said that over the past several years Bulgaria offered an increasing variety of boutique and five-star hotels, spa resorts and interesting cultural and historical destinations.Hosting WATA’s General Assembly would help the country attract more solvent tourists, he said. WATA is the oldest union of tourist companies. Its members are more than 50 travel agencies which offers mainly individual and boutique travels, instead of mass tourism.
