France thinks Bulgaria should be admitted to Schengen

France’s Minister of Interior, Overseas Territories, Territorial Communities and Immigration, Claude Guéant has met in Sofia with Bulgaria’s Interior Minister Tsvetan Tsvetanov and was received by PM Borissov.
The main topic of the meetings was Bulgaria’s entry into the Schengen area. Claude Guéant declared that France was completely sure that the assessment of Bulgaria’s technical readiness to join Schengen would be positive but there would be political assessments, as well.
PM Borissov pointed out that the Bulgarian cabinet insisted on Bulgaria’s Schengen entry not only for the sake of Bulgarian citizens but also for helping the EU in coping with the sweeping wave of refugees. The interior ministers of Bulgaria and France also discussed the bilateral cooperation in countering organized crime and the police cooperation against cross-border organized crime.
