Over a million Bulgarians travelled abroad in 2008
Data from the National Statistics Institute shows that more than 1.3 million people travelled abroad last year.
Business travel apparently accounted for 71 per cent of all travel abroad and 68 per cent of travel within Bulgaria.
Education-related travel accounted for 12 per cent of travellers who headed abroad and 13 per cent of those who travelled within Bulgaria.
Last year young people aged between 15 and 34 years of age travelled the most – 45 per cent on personal trips. Perhaps unsurprisingly, the group who travelled the least - both at home and abroad - were pensioners above the age of 65; only eight per cent of them made trips within Bulgaria and only five per cent had the opportunity to travel abroad. |
