Sozopol wins European village award
Sozopol has received the gold seal distinction for a unique European village, granted by the European Forum of Experts and the Official Representation of Unique Villages in Europe. The gold seal was bestowed on Sozopol's mayor, Panayot Reizi, at a ceremony on December 19 in the Sofia City Art Gallery. Local governors will now stamp all their formal correspondence with the seal. Sozopol received the prize for its historical and cultural development and unique landscape. The town will now be entitled to participate in the Unique European Villages' joint programs. So far 15 European towns have won this prize, including Florence and Strasbourg. Sozopol is the first tourist town along the southern Black Sea coastline to receive the gold seal. |
